Review: WebCamMax

This is just a shout out to the folks at webcammax.  This is a pretty slick tool.  It acts as a virtual camera driver that takes the feed of your camera and then lets you do some really cool things with it.  For instance you can easily switch between sources, have as many Picture-in-Picture sources (PIP SOURCES) as you want.  Additionally, it has a number of effects you can apply live to the video stream.  You can overlay things such as masks and silly faces.  When you think about it, this piece of software is nothing short of amazing.

With over two thousand effects in all how can you not find a use for it.  It works with all web cams and because it’s a virtual driver, it can support streaming to multiple devices at once.  I think I read it was around 32 (maybe 64).  How cool is that.  Stream your channel anytime, anywhere.  You can even use it as the video source to your IM video calls as well.  Now you can also apply cool effects to your calls as well.  I am currently trying to figure out how it can help my business by having live video reviews with my clients while they see what I see on the desktop.  Skype calls will never be the same again.

When I first heard about this utility I saw it on a popular life casting site.  The life casters found some ingenious ways of using its features.  The PIP was good to make a channel that showed how to use a piece of software.  Another one show a PIP view of an artist creating a cartoon.  In a last example, I was able to watch a video as someone else watched the movie.

WebCamMax is compatible with W2K,XP and Vista.  Though there is a small fee, it is the only one that can do these advanced features.  In my case I was able to broadcast what was going on on my desktop with the camera trained on my with PIP.  If you are into life camming this can also be a fun way to entertain your web friends.  Check them out at www.webcammax.com.  They currently have 64bit drivers in beta.  This author’s first use with them has been great.  If you want to try the 64bit version, just email their support department.  They are quick to reply and give you the information that you need.
