I have owned the VX-6700 for a few months now and have loved every minute....except the first few when I found out that the phone came with some features crippled. That's right, crippled. Leave it to Verizon Wireless to cripple the best mobile device to be released this year. Well it wasn't soon after I got it that I started trolling the boards and found how to make the most of my VX-6700. Here is a list of mods that I have made:
- Enabled Bluetooth DUN - this allows me to use my device as a modem from my bluetooth enabled laptop. Its not without issues but it works well and when it does hiccup it is easy enough to correct.
- Enable GPS Settings In Control Panel - this will show me the GPS settings in the control panel. I have not figured out how to incorporate this into a program like Streets and Trips but I'm sure I will soon (see below).
- Wifi And Phone at the Same Time - this will allow you to be working at a hot spot and still have a call come in. Out of the box its one or the other. Pay attention with this one 'cause it will eat your batter up if you use it much (see below).
- Other Registry Hacks - this is a link to a list of other hacks. I have not implemented all of them but I put them here for your benefit.
Some of the mods involve hacking the registry. While there are freebies out there, I paid for Resco File Explorer (after the trial expired of course). It comes with a great file explorer that lets me map drives on the LAN as well as modify the registry. It also has a Today screen plugin that tells you system stats. I HIGHLY suggest you turn off the part that reports on the SD card since there is a known issue that makes your PDA look like it is freezing when it comes back from a sleep.
Thats it for now. Hope this helps you all get the most out of your 6700 (the coolest phone on the planet).
